Kansas City Chiefs – Arrowhead Stadium

Tailgating at Arrowhead Stadium

For any diehard football fan, one stop that has to be made
is to Kansas City.

Originally named the Dallas Texans, the club was a charter
member of the American Football League in 1960.
They moved to Kansas City and took the Chiefs name in 1963.

That history is evident in how seriously the Kansas City
fans take their game day experience.
While their team has had its share of ups and downs recently, their
fans, and their tailgates, have never been better.

VenRoo visited last year with a group of 10 NFL fans from
around the country.  We represented 5
different NFL teams as we descended upon the stadium, not really sure what to
expect.

The Chief's Fans are Awesome

We got to the parking lot early (or at least we thought we
were early) to see the parking lot was already full and an
impossible-to-describe BBQ smell in the air.
As we made our way to our tailgate (we were lucky enough to know someone
who lived in the area), the one thing we noticed was how friendly all the fans
were.  We got the occasional heckle,
which made us feel at home.  But all the
fans were very nice and welcoming.   Our
suggestion, whether you are a seasoned tailgater or a rookie, is to stop by and
experience the pre game rituals in Kansas City.

Of course you'll find great Barbeque at Kansas City

You will not be disappointed.

Heading into the game was more of the same.  The stadium has been updated, but kept a lot
of the history that fans know from Arrowhead Stadium.  And the fans didn’t miss a beat – they were as
nice in the stadium as they were outside (even during the game, where the Chiefs
ended up on the short end of the stick).

The stadium had good sightlines – I don’t think there was a
bad seat in the house.  And even though
their team was down most of the game, the crowd seemed into it throughout the
afternoon.  There is a definite home
field advantage here.

Great view from our seats at Arrowhead Stadium

Overall, the experience is exactly what we had hoped
for.  First, there was a great tailgate,
with friendly people, that allowed us to fit in no matter what team we were
supporting.  And after that, a game
experience that was second to none – a great crowd, mixed with some classic
AFL/NFL history, and an iconic stadium to go with it.

Stay tuned to see where else we’ve been and where we plan to
go.  Oh, and one last question….

Do you VenRoo???
